FAQ
Questions people ask before installing.
Can I just delete the app to get around it?
Yes. MindLock is friction, not a cage. It is built for the reflex tap, the tenth open of the evening, not for a moment you actually decide to spend online. That is also why there is an emergency unlock.
Why does it need Screen Time access?
Locking an app on iOS is only possible through Apple’s Screen Time framework. MindLock uses it to show the shield and to open the app after a passed quiz. It never sees your usage of other apps, and the apps you pick are stored on your device only.
Why are notifications important?
When you tap “Start quiz” on a locked app, a notification is the door into the quiz. Without it you would have to open MindLock by hand every time. MindLock never sends marketing notifications.
What happens if I fail the quiz?
The app stays locked and a short cooldown starts before you can try again. On Perfect Run difficulty, one mistake ends the attempt.
Does it work offline?
Locking, unlocking and timers work offline. Quiz questions are downloaded when you start a quiz, so the first question needs a connection.
Where does my data go?
Almost nowhere. No account, no ads. Our server sees an anonymous installation ID, a push token for timers and anonymous usage counters. Details are in the privacy policy.
